Rigging & Metal Fabrication

Port Annapolis Marina is the premier outfitter of offshore cruising yachts on the Chesapeake. We are located near the entrance to Back Creek on the Chesapeake Bay. Our staff includes some of the most qualified and experienced professional riggers in the area. We excel at custom projects, including everything from dinghy davits and chainplates to traditional and synthetic rigging, and have an in-house CAD-design team able to reproduce or fabricate any part required. Port Annapolis Marina specializes in rigging for the ocean-going yacht, and will outfit your boat to the highest standards of safety, performance and aesthetic.

STANDING RIGGING

Port Annapolis Marina will service and install all available types of standing rigging. We offer comprehensive rig surveys, including a detailed, printed report with photographs highlighting every aspect of the yacht’s rigging, both seaworthy and unsafe.Port Annapolis Marina can customize your yachts rig to take advantage of your primary sailing needs – strong, redundant and safe offshore; light and fast for racing; or practical and economical for coastal cruising. Additionally, Port Annapolis Marina is the only rigging shop in Annapolis to offer cutting-edge synthetic standing rigging. Dynex Dux is appearing on yachts from 35′ classics right on up to megayacht schooners. It’s especially popular on mutlihulls, where weight savings greatly increases performance. Dux is applicable as wire replacement for standing rigging, lifelines, steering cables and more. Contact us to schedule a rig survey or get a quote.

MAST & SPARS

From a simple clutch installation to full rig replacement Port Annapolis Marina is ready to apply our expertise and attention to detail. With the added benefit of being part of a full service yard we can handle any task and maintain control from start to finish.

Port Annapolis Marina works on all types of spar materials. Whether it’s wood, aluminum, carbon fiber, the details make the difference. Careful planning and execution leads to a better finished product no matter what the spar material. Access to all the top manufacturers of aluminum and carbon fiber spars and relationships with fine local woodworkers allow us to offer outstanding products to the modern race boat or the classic cruiser.

Mast-mounted electrical work is an important aspect of yacht outfitting. New advancements in lighting technology, instrumentation and satellite radio are finding their way onto modern yachts. Port Annapolis Marina works with a variety of manufacturers to ensure the proper equipment is installed for the boat’s intended sailing conditions.

FURLING GEAR

Headsail furling gear has become the status quo in sail handling. Advancements in materials and technology have made these systems reliable and easy to use. Mainsail furling systems are following suit. In mast furling equipment and in boom systems have come a long way. Port Annapolis Marina Services has experience installing and servicing systems from Selden, Sparcraft, Leisure Furl and others. Let us help you upgrade your boat or tweak your existing systems for better performance and ease of use.

Have your furlers inspected and serviced regularly. Proper cleaning and lubrication will ensure years of faithful service from your equipment.

RUNNING RIGGING

Apart from a yacht’s sails, the state of a yacht’s running rigging can vastly change the way the boat performs, and in turn, your enjoyment of that performance. Racers and cruisers alike can benefit from running rigging improvements – new control lines make for easier sail trim; high-tech, low-stretch halyards help keep a yacht’s sails shaped and pulling efficiently; reefing systems made to efficiently reduce mainsail size will allow you to keep sailing comfortably in a blow, when other boats have headed for port or started their diesels.

Port Annapolis Marina works with all boat owners to optimize your yacht’s running rigging and design your yacht’s control lines around the boat and the sailor – high-tech, go-fast lines for the competitive fleet; low-stretch, mid-range lines for the coastal cruiser; or long-lasting, overbuilt lines for the offshore yacht, where safety, redundancy and durability are of primary concern.

MARINE FABRICATION

Port Annapolis Marina’s fabrication team can recreate or custom-design any part for any purpose on your boat. While we can source any off-the-shelf product – like dinghy davits or radar mounts – our custom fabrication can expand the range of what’s possible onboard your boat, from a classic boom gallows to a new inner forestay chainplate. Our technicians, with their varied experience in the shop and on the water, can recommend upgrades that will make your boat easier and more fun to sail, and can spot onboard problems before they turn into emergencies. Aloft or on deck, there is no limit to getting the most from your yacht.
